The 1st Chinese New Year Dragon Boat Festival was held on Feb. 24, 2018 in Royal Mohamed Aly Club celebrating Chinese New Year.
A huge crowd of Egyptians and Chinese gathered on Saturday at Royal Mohamed Ali Club in Giza province to watch dragon boats racing on the Nile River. The event featured Dragon race, dragon dance, delicious Chinese food and other fun activities.
The event was organized by Egyptian Friendship Association – Hong Kong, China-Egypt Friendship Association and the Chinese Cultural Center in Cairo.
ECU students participated under the university name; ECU students got the first place in the first round; Second place in the second round and ended the competition with the Third place in the race.
16 students participated in the race; ECU representatives attended the event to cheer for the students on the top of them Vice President “DR. Essam khalifa “ ; Teaching Assistant “ Donia Ashry “ and Lecturer assistant “ Perihan Salah “.
ECU students showed a very competitive spirit during the competition; ranked third place in their first Dragon boat race in addition to shouting and cheering with ECU name.
Being the first Chinese university in Egypt and the Middle East holding affiliations with top ranked Chinese universities; ECU is concerned about taking part in Chinese events and exposing ECU students to the Chinese culture and events.
“Such events provide both Chinese and Egyptians with a way to deepen our mutual understanding and strengthen our friendship,” Chinese Ambassador during the event.
“By this event we will conclude this year’s ‘Happy Chinese New Year’ series celebration events, but I see this as just a new beginning of cultural communication,” he explained.
ECU is very keen to engage its students in such events in order to interact with other cultures and get engaged in Chinese related events; through such cultural moves, Egypt and China want to boost friendly ties and enhance mutual understanding and future development between the peoples of the two nations, whose relations have deep roots back in history.
